How to Cancel ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Other AI Subscriptions

How to cancel ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Microsoft 365 on the web, iPhone or Android, and when each company gives you a refund.

Most complaints about AI subscriptions that “can’t be cancelled” have the same cause. The plan was bought in the iPhone app, the Android app or through X, and the person is looking for a cancel button on the website. The button isn’t there because the website isn’t the one billing them.

This guide shows where to cancel each of the big AI subscriptions, what happens to your account afterwards, and when you can get money back. Every step and rule comes from the companies’ own help pages and terms, and from official legal sources, checked on October 7, 2026.

First, find out who bills you

Before you look for a cancel button, work out where you subscribed. That decides where you cancel and who handles a refund.

Not sure which applies? Search your email for “receipt from Apple”, open play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions with each Google account you use, and check your card statement to see which company is charging you.

How to cancel ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Go

On the web: sign in at chatgpt.com, open your account menu and choose Settings, then Billing. Under Cancel plan, select Cancel.

On iPhone or iPad: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions → ChatGPT → Cancel Subscription.

On Android: in the Play Store app, go to Subscriptions → ChatGPT → Cancel subscription.

ChatGPT Business: open the account menu, then Workspace settings → Billing → Manage plan → Cancel subscription.

If you can’t sign in: contact OpenAI support with your account email, the last four digits of the card you paid with and the date of your last payment. OpenAI asks you never to send the full card number.

You keep the paid features until the end of the billing period. Cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date, or you may be charged again. Uninstalling the app doesn’t cancel. Deleting your account cancels a subscription billed by ChatGPT directly, but not one billed by Apple. OpenAI doesn’t say exactly what happens to paid features such as memories and custom GPTs after you drop to the free plan, so export anything important before your plan ends.

Refunds. OpenAI says payments are “generally non-refundable”. If you haven’t used a new subscription, you can ask for a discretionary refund within seven days of the charge. In the EU, the UK and Turkey, you can cancel within 14 days of purchase and get back the unused part. Ask through the chat widget at help.openai.com, signed in with the account that was charged. Refunds take five to seven business days. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not OpenAI.

How to cancel Claude Pro or Max

On the web or in the desktop app: click your initials or name in the lower left, choose Settings, then Billing, and click Cancel.

On iPhone: tap your initials in the top right of the Claude app, then Billing → Manage subscription. If you’ve deleted the app, cancel from your Apple subscriptions instead.

On Android: the same path in the Claude app, or through Google Play.

If you subscribed on the website, Anthropic’s terms also let you cancel by emailing [email protected].

The plan stays active until the end of the billing period. Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date. Anthropic’s own example: if you subscribed on January 25, cancel by February 23.

Refunds. Anthropic doesn’t refund payments unless its terms or the law require it. In the EEA and the UK, you can get a refund within 14 days of purchase, reduced for what you’ve used, and the option may appear right in your Settings. In Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and Taiwan, you have seven days to change your mind. To ask, click your initials, then Get help → Send us a message, and choose Claude Refund Request. App Store purchases go to Apple, and asking Apple for a refund doesn’t cancel the subscription.

Claude gifts don’t need cancelling: a gift simply ends. But if you were already paying Anthropic on the web when you redeemed a Pro gift, the gift extends that subscription, and it starts billing again when the gift ends unless you cancel it.

Deleting your account is a separate, permanent step that removes your conversations and projects. Anthropic says to cancel first and wait until the paid period is over.

How to cancel Gemini (Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra)

Google sells its AI plans as Google One memberships, so that’s where you cancel them.

On a computer: go to one.google.com, open Settings, choose Cancel membership and confirm.

On Android: in the Google One app, tap Menu → Settings → Cancel membership.

On iPhone: in the Google One app, tap Menu → Membership plans → Manage plan → Cancel membership. That opens Apple’s subscription page, where you tap Cancel Subscription. If there’s no button, or you see an expiry date in red, it’s already cancelled.

Family members can’t cancel the manager’s plan. They can leave the family group or ask the manager to cancel.

Your storage and AI benefits continue until the end of the billing cycle. After that, your account drops back to the free 15 GB. If you’re over it, Gmail can’t send or receive email, Drive stops syncing and Photos stops backing up until you free up space, and content that stays over the limit for two years or more may be deleted. Unused AI credits may be lost when the plan ends.

Don’t delete the Google One service as a way of cancelling. That ends your benefits straight away, while cancelling keeps them until the end of the period you paid for.

Refunds. In most countries, Google’s storage plans aren’t refundable. Purchases made through Google Play follow Play’s refund rules, and App Store purchases go to Apple. Where the law gives you a right of withdrawal, as in the EU, you may have to pay for the part you used.

How to cancel Grok and SuperGrok

On the web: go to grok.com → Settings → Billing, or open grok.com/?_s=billing while signed in. If the Manage Subscription button doesn’t open, an ad blocker may be stopping it: try a private window or another browser.

On iPhone: cancel from your Apple subscriptions.

On Android: cancel through Google Play.

If you got Grok through X Premium+: cancel X Premium on X. X handles those refunds, not xAI.

Your subscription is tied to the login you bought it with. If you signed up with Apple’s Hide My Email, use Sign in with Apple to see it.

Refunds. xAI’s terms say payments are non-refundable unless the law requires otherwise. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, you can withdraw within 14 days by emailing [email protected]. For web and Google Play purchases, use xAI’s refund request form, signed in with the account that subscribed. Approved refunds take 5 to 10 business days. App Store purchases go to Apple.

xAI’s FAQ covers two common problems. If you see charges from two platforms, you probably have two subscriptions: cancel the one you don’t need, then contact support about a refund. And a large unexpected invoice is often a yearly SuperGrok Heavy plan, so check your subscription history before you dispute it. Our Grok pricing guide explains what each tier costs.

How to cancel X Premium or Premium+

Manage X Premium from Settings on the platform where you subscribed: the App Store for the iPhone app, Google Play for Android, and on the web through X’s Premium settings, which hand you over to Stripe. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews.

Your features last until the end of the term you paid for, checkmark included. If Premium+ is how you got SuperGrok, Grok’s higher limits end with it.

X doesn’t refund subscriptions unless the law requires it. Moving to a higher tier is the exception: on the web you get account credit for the unused time, and in the iPhone app a prorated refund. In the EU and UK you have 14 days after purchase to withdraw. Gift subscriptions are one-time purchases: they don’t renew and can’t be refunded.

How to cancel Perplexity Pro or Max

On a computer: go to Settings, scroll down to Subscription, click Manage Subscription and choose Cancel subscription.

On iPhone: open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then Subscriptions → Perplexity → Cancel subscription.

On Android: open Google Play, go to Payments & subscriptions → Perplexity → Cancel subscription.

Your account goes back to the free version at the end of the billing cycle. Perplexity doesn’t offer a pause, and deleting your account doesn’t cancel the subscription.

Refunds. Perplexity’s refund windows are short but clearly stated. In the EU, the UK and Turkey you have 14 days, for monthly and yearly plans. In South Korea and Brazil it’s seven days. Everyone else gets 24 hours after buying a monthly plan and 72 hours after buying a yearly one, with “no exceptions” after that. Perplexity only grants one refund per account. On the web, the refund option appears when you cancel. Android subscribers email support with their Google Play email or order number, and iPhone subscribers ask Apple.

How to cancel Microsoft 365 and Copilot

Microsoft 365 Personal and Family are the home plans that include Copilot. You cancel them in your Microsoft account.

Go to account.microsoft.com/services, signed in with the account that pays, and select Cancel subscription (it may say Upgrade or Cancel). Review the page, then choose I don’t want my subscription at the bottom. If you see Turn on recurring billing instead, the plan is already set to expire.

To stop the renewal but keep using it, choose Manage → Turn off recurring billing. You keep everything until the expiry date. If you bought it through Apple, Google Play or a shop such as Amazon, cancel with them.

Refunds. Microsoft has the longest standard refund window here. You can usually get a refund within 30 days of your first purchase, or before your first renewal if that comes sooner. You can also get your latest renewal refunded if you cancel within 30 days of that payment, once per account and product. Microsoft shows whether you’re eligible during cancellation. Prepaid product keys follow the shop’s return policy instead.

When the plan ends, OneDrive storage drops to 5 GB and Outlook.com mail to 15 GB, for everyone you shared a Family plan with. If you’re over the limit, OneDrive stops syncing, and after six months Microsoft may delete the files.

How to cancel Suno or Character.AI

Suno: on the web, go to suno.com/account and choose Cancel Subscription at the top of the page. In the apps, cancel through Apple or Google Play. You can keep using Suno until the end of the billing cycle, then your account returns to the free Basic plan. You keep the rights to songs you made while subscribed. Suno’s payments are final unless Suno decides otherwise. It looks at cases like an accidental yearly purchase or a sign-up with no songs made, but not a change of mind. If it’s only been a day or two, email [email protected].

Character.AI (c.ai+): on the website, go to Settings → Account → Manage and enter your email. Character.AI sends a secure link to its customer portal, where you can cancel. If the plan says it’s managed by an app store, cancel with Apple or Google Play. Payments are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise.

Getting a refund from Apple or Google Play

If you subscribed in an app, the store usually decides.

Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, choose I’d like to → Request a refund, pick a reason and the subscription, and submit. Apple says to expect an update within 24 to 48 hours. Requesting a refund doesn’t cancel the subscription, so cancel it too. In the UK and the EU, Apple’s terms give you 14 days from your receipt to withdraw from a new subscription (not a renewal), with a Withdraw Transaction option under Apple Account → Purchase History. In Germany, Israel, South Africa and Türkiye, you can cancel a subscription with immediate effect and get a prorated refund at any time through Apple Support.

Google Play. Within 48 hours of buying, ask Google directly: on play.google.com, open your profile, then Payments & subscriptions → Budget & order history, and choose Report a problem. Google usually decides within a day, sometimes up to four. After 48 hours, contact the app’s developer. Google only supports partial refunds on subscriptions in Israel, France, Germany and New York.

Try these routes before you dispute a charge with your bank. As xAI puts it, check the purchase date and your subscription history first.

Your rights in the EU, UK and US

EU. You can withdraw from an online service contract within 14 days without giving a reason. For a monthly plan you’ve already started using, companies refund the unused part rather than the full price, as OpenAI’s, Anthropic’s and Google’s terms spell out. Since June 19, 2026, EU traders that sell online must also offer a withdrawal function labelled “withdraw from contract here” or similar. German law separately requires a cancellation button for ongoing contracts; if a site doesn’t have one, you can cancel at any time without notice. The EU’s planned Digital Fairness Act, expected to be proposed by the end of 2026, is meant to tackle hard-to-cancel digital subscriptions.

UK. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days to cancel a service or digital content. If you asked for a service to start straight away, you pay for what you’ve used. For digital content, the right ends once you agree to immediate access and acknowledge you’re losing it. The government says new subscription rules under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act come into force in January 2027: clearer information up front, regular reminders, an easier way out, and a new 14-day cooling-off period after a free trial ends or a longer contract renews.

US. There’s no federal “click to cancel” rule in force. A US appeals court struck down the FTC’s 2024 rule on July 8, 2025, and in March 2026 the FTC started over by asking for public comment. An older federal law, ROSCA, still requires online subscriptions to offer a simple way to stop recurring charges. California updated its auto-renewal law from July 1, 2025. According to law-firm summaries, it requires online cancellation, a direct cancel link when a company shows you a retention offer, and yearly reminders.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Why you might still be charged after cancelling

  • You cancelled too late. Apple can charge up to 24 hours before a new period starts, and Google Play may place a hold on your card up to 48 hours before.
  • You have two subscriptions. One on the website and one in an app are separate. Cancelling one leaves the other running.
  • You deleted instead of cancelling. Removing the app never cancels. Deleting your Perplexity account doesn’t either, and deleting your OpenAI account doesn’t cancel an Apple subscription.
  • You’re signed in to a different account. Check each Apple ID, Google account and login method you use.
  • A free trial converted. Cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends.
  • Someone else manages the plan. In a family plan, only the manager can cancel.

How to find a subscription you forgot about

  • Apple: Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or account.apple.com on the web.
  • Google Play: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, signed in with each Google account.
  • Google One: one.google.com → Settings.
  • Microsoft: account.microsoft.com/services.
  • PayPal: Settings → Payments → Automatic payments. Cancel with the company as well, so the plan itself stops.
  • Your card statement: it shows which company is actually charging you.

Or pay once for a fixed term

Every paid subscription above renews until you stop it. The alternative is paying once for a fixed term. That’s how our plans work: you choose a term, from one month up to a year depending on the plan, and pay once in crypto. We never charge you again, and your activation steps show how to make sure the plan doesn’t renew on the company’s side. We sell ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Pro and Ultra, SuperGrok, Perplexity and more this way, on your own account.

A few things to know first:

  • If you already pay the company directly, cancel that subscription first, using the steps above, or you’ll pay twice.
  • Claude is sold as an official gift. If you redeem one while paying Anthropic on the web, the gift extends your existing plan, and that plan bills again after the gift unless you cancel it. If you pay for Claude through Apple or Google Play, wait until that subscription has ended before you redeem.
  • Adding one of our Microsoft 365 keys to a plan that already renews? Turn off recurring billing at account.microsoft.com/services.
  • Our refund rule is our own. If we can’t deliver within 24 hours, you get every coin back. Before we’ve bought your item, you can cancel for a refund minus the network fee. Once a plan is delivered, it can’t be returned.

If your card keeps getting declined when you try to resubscribe, that’s a separate problem, covered in AI subscription card declined.

Questions people ask

Why can’t I cancel my ChatGPT subscription?

Usually because you subscribed in the iPhone or Android app. Those plans have to be cancelled through Apple or Google Play, not on chatgpt.com. If you can’t sign in, OpenAI support can help if you give your email, the last four digits of your card and your last payment date.

What happens if I cancel ChatGPT Plus?

You keep Plus until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then your account carries on as a free account. Cancelling isn’t the same as deleting your account, which is a separate step.

Can I get a refund if I forgot to cancel?

Sometimes. Microsoft refunds a renewal if you cancel within 30 days of it, once per product. Perplexity gives 24 hours for monthly plans and 72 hours for yearly ones. OpenAI may refund an unused plan within seven days. In the EU and UK the 14-day right covers new purchases; whether a renewal counts depends on the company, and Apple’s terms say it doesn’t. App Store refunds are Apple’s decision.

Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?

No. Uninstalling an app never cancels a subscription. Cancel in the app’s settings, the App Store or Google Play.

How do I turn off auto-renewal for Grok?

Cancelling is how you turn it off: grok.com → Settings → Billing for web subscriptions, or your Apple or Google Play subscriptions for app purchases. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you’ve paid for.

Can I cancel and keep using the plan until the end of the month?

Yes. Every service in this guide keeps your plan running until the end of the billing period, except Character.AI, which doesn’t say. The exceptions are a refund, which normally ends the access you were refunded for, deleting the Google One service, which ends benefits straight away, and an immediate cancellation through Apple in the few countries that allow it.

Will I get a reminder before my subscription renews?

Don’t count on it. Google Play emails a reminder before trials end and before 3-month, 6-month and yearly renewals. California’s law requires yearly reminders, according to law-firm summaries, and UK rules will require regular reminders from January 2027. Otherwise, put the renewal date in your calendar.
