The Cheapest Way to Send USDT in 2026: TRON vs Ethereum vs BSC vs Solana vs Polygon

We checked live fees on October 5, 2026. Sending USDT costs about $2 to $4.50 on TRON but a cent or less on BSC, Polygon and Solana. How to pick a network.

Thin tracks carved into a black marble slab, each carrying a small brass disc, receding into the distance

For years the advice was simple: send USDT on TRON, because it’s cheap. That stopped being true in 2025. Ethereum gas fell to a fraction of what it used to be, BNB Smart Chain cut its minimum gas price twice, and Solana keeps getting cheaper. TRON did cut its own fees, but it’s still the most expensive of the five common networks for a single transfer from your own wallet.

We checked live fees on October 5, 2026, using each network’s own data and the fee pages of Binance and Kraken. Coin prices on the day: TRX $0.335, ETH $2,712, BNB $792, SOL $120, POL $0.108.

What it costs to send USDT from your own wallet

NetworkFee for one USDT transferPaid inTime until it’s final
TRON (TRC-20)About 6.5 TRX, or $2.20. About 13.4 TRX ($4.50) if the receiving address has never held USDTTRXAbout 1 minute
Ethereum (ERC-20)About $0.01 to $0.12 at current gas prices, more when the network is busyETHAbout 15 minutes to finalize. Most services credit it after a few blocks
BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20)About $0.0015BNBA few seconds
Polygon PoSUnder $0.01POLAbout 5 seconds
Solana (SPL)About $0.0006, plus about $0.20 if the receiver has no USDT account yetSOLAbout 13 seconds

For USDC, Base belongs in the same group as BSC and Polygon: a transfer cost under a tenth of a cent on the day we checked.

Two things stand out. Ethereum, long the expensive option, now costs pennies for most transfers: the average gas price was 0.67 gwei on October 3, 2026, half of what it was a year earlier. And TRON’s fee depends on the receiver. Sending to an address that has never held USDT uses about twice the resources.

Why TRON costs more than you’d expect

TRON doesn’t charge gas the way Ethereum does. Every transfer uses two resources: bandwidth, which is roughly the size of the transaction, and energy, which is the work the USDT contract does. Each account gets 600 free bandwidth points a day, but no free energy. If you don’t have energy, the network burns TRX to cover it.

A USDT transfer to an address that already holds USDT used about 64,000 energy in our sample. To an address with no USDT, about 130,000. In August 2025 TRON’s validators voted to cut the energy price from 210 to 100 sun (a sun is a millionth of a TRX), which roughly halved fees. That cut is why a transfer costs around 6.5 TRX today instead of about 13.5.

You can bring the cost close to zero by staking TRX for energy, or by renting energy from a third party. That makes sense if you send USDT on TRON often. For one payment a month, it isn’t worth the setup.

From an exchange, the withdrawal fee is what you pay

If your USDT sits on an exchange, the network fee above doesn’t reach you directly. The exchange charges its own flat withdrawal fee per network instead. These were the published fees on October 5, 2026:

NetworkBinanceKraken
TRON (TRC-20)1.5 USDT1.00 USDT (minimum withdrawal 6 USDT)
Ethereum (ERC-20)0.5 USDT0.74 USDT, changes with gas
BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20)0.01 USDTNot offered
Polygon0.07 USDT1.00 USDT
Solana0.3 USDT1.24 USDT

On both exchanges, TRC-20 now costs more to withdraw than ERC-20. On Binance, BEP-20 is close to free. Coinbase charges an estimate of the network fee plus a small processing fee for USDT. Fees change, so check the withdrawal screen before you send. It shows the fee for each network.

One more trap: the exchange takes its fee out of the amount you send. If you need 56.12 USDT to arrive and the fee is 1.5, enter 57.62.

So which network should you use?

  1. The one your USDT is already on. Moving USDT between networks through a bridge or a swap costs more than any fee difference here.
  2. On an exchange, compare withdrawal fees. On Binance, BEP-20 or Polygon. On Kraken, Ethereum or TRON.
  3. From your own wallet, BSC, Polygon or Solana for the lowest fee. Ethereum is fine too at today’s gas prices. TRON makes sense mainly when that’s where your USDT already is.
  4. Keep some of the network’s own coin. You can’t send USDT on TRON without TRX, on Ethereum without ETH, on BSC without BNB, on Polygon without POL or on Solana without SOL. “I have USDT but the wallet won’t send it” is almost always this.

Is USDT the same on every network?

It’s worth the same, about one dollar, but it isn’t the same token. USDT on TRON and USDT on Ethereum are separate tokens issued by Tether on each chain, and they can’t be sent from one chain to the other directly. USDT on BNB Smart Chain is different again: Tether’s transparency report lists no USDT issued natively on BNB Chain. The BEP-20 version is Binance-Peg USDT, backed by USDT that Binance holds.

TRON and Ethereum together hold about 90% of all USDT. Of roughly $184 billion in circulation on October 5, 2026, about $92.7 billion was on TRON and $73.4 billion on Ethereum, with BSC, Solana and Polygon sharing most of the rest.

Paying us in USDT

We accept USDT on TRON, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon and Solana, and USDC on Ethereum, Base and Solana. The payment page shows our address for the network you pick, a QR code and the exact amount. The last digits of the amount mark the payment as yours, so send it exactly. Full steps for each network are in our USDT guide and the how to pay page.

Questions people ask

Is TRC-20 or ERC-20 cheaper?

From your own wallet, ERC-20 is cheaper at October 2026 gas prices: cents against about $2.20 in TRX. That can change quickly if Ethereum gets busy. From an exchange, look at the withdrawal fee. On Binance and Kraken, ERC-20 is currently the cheaper of the two.

Why did my TRON transfer burn 13 TRX?

Because the receiving address didn’t hold any USDT before. The first USDT transfer to an address uses about twice the energy of later ones.

What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network?

If the address formats differ, such as TRON and Ethereum, your wallet will usually refuse. Ethereum, BSC and Polygon all use 0x addresses, though, so a wallet will happily send ERC-20 USDT to an address you meant to pay on BSC. Whether those funds can be recovered depends on the receiver. Always pick the same network on both sides.

How long does a USDT payment take?

About a minute on TRON and seconds on BSC, Polygon and Solana. On Ethereum, most services, including us, count a payment after a few minutes, although full finality takes about 15. Exchanges add their own processing time before the withdrawal is even sent.
