What ChatGPT and Gemini Cost in the US, UK, EU, Canada and Australia
ChatGPT Plus is $20 in the US but about $26 in the UK once VAT is included. We compared AI plan prices in five regions and explain where the gap comes from.
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month in the US, £19.99 in the UK and €22.99 in Germany. Those look like the same price with a different currency symbol, but they aren’t. Converted to dollars, the UK price is $26.39, about a third more than the American one.
We sell AI plans for accounts in five regions, so we track these prices closely. This article compares what ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini plans cost in each, explains why they differ, and answers the question people always ask next: can you just pay the cheaper price?
Local prices are as listed on October 4, 2026. Conversions use the European Central Bank reference rates of October 2, 2026: £1 = $1.3201, €1 = $1.1225, C$1 = $0.7022 and A$1 = $0.6939.
ChatGPT Plus in five regions
| Region | Local price | In US dollars | Before tax, in US dollars |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $20.00 | $20.00 | $20.00, plus sales tax in some states |
| United Kingdom | £19.99 | $26.39 | $21.99 (20% VAT included) |
| Eurozone (Germany) | €22.99 | $25.81 | $21.69 (19% VAT included) |
| Canada | C$24.99 | $17.55 | $17.55, before GST or HST |
| Australia | A$29.99 | $20.81 | $18.92 (10% GST included) |
Look at the last column. Once you take tax out, Plus costs between $17.55 and $21.99 everywhere, and four of the five regions sit within 10% of the US price. Most of the scary gap in the third column is VAT.
The bigger plans
The same pattern holds further up, with a few surprises:
| Plan | US | UK | Eurozone | Canada | Australia |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Pro 100 | $100 | £88.90 ($117.36) | €102.99 ($115.61) | C$152.99 ($107.43) | A$154.99 ($107.55) |
| ChatGPT Pro 200 | $200 | £200 ($264.02) | €229 ($257.05) | C$249 ($174.85) | A$300 ($208.17) |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | £18.99 ($25.07) | €21.99 ($24.68) | C$26.99 ($18.95) | A$32.99 ($22.89) |
| Google AI Ultra (20×) | $199.99 | £189.99 ($250.81) | €219.99 ($246.94) | C$279.99 ($196.61) | A$329.99 ($228.98) |
A few things stand out:
- Canada is the cheapest region in dollars for ChatGPT Plus, Pro 200, Google AI Pro and AI Ultra. Canadian prices are low for the current exchange rate, and they’re shown before tax.
- The UK is the most expensive for ChatGPT Pro 200. At £200 it costs $264 with VAT, $64 more than in the US. Pro 100, by contrast, is close to the US price once VAT is removed: about $97.80.
- Australia is close to the US once GST is out. A$29.99 for Plus is $18.92 before tax.
Why the same plan costs different amounts
Tax is included in some countries and not others
In the UK, the EU and Australia, consumer prices must include VAT or GST. In the US and Canada, prices are usually shown before tax, which is added at checkout.
Digital subscriptions are taxed where the customer lives, not where the company is. Under EU rules, electronic services are always taxed in the customer’s country, so a German subscriber pays German VAT at 19%, a French one 20%, a Spanish or Dutch one 21% and an Italian one 22%. A US company selling to UK consumers has to register for VAT from the first sale. Australia charges 10% GST on digital services once a foreign seller’s Australian sales pass A$75,000 a year.
North America is messier. About 24 US states and Washington, D.C. tax software subscriptions in some form, and California will start on January 1, 2027. In Canada, GST is 5% in some provinces and HST is 13% to 15% in others. Nova Scotia’s HST has been 14% since April 2025.
Companies pick round local prices
Vendors set a price in each currency, usually ending in .99, and change it rarely. Exchange rates move every day. When the pound or the euro gets stronger against the dollar, UK and EU prices get more expensive in dollar terms even though nothing changed on the price list. When a currency weakens, that country becomes the bargain.
Some prices are set for the market
Not every difference is tax or currency. ChatGPT Pro 100 costs £88.90 in the UK but C$152.99 in Canada, and those numbers don’t come from any exchange rate. Companies price some plans market by market.
Can you pay a cheaper country’s price?
Not in a way that lasts. Your subscription belongs to the country your account is set to, and that has to match your payment method. Google’s payment profiles can’t change country at all. On Google Play, switching country requires being in the new country with a payment method from there. OpenAI and Anthropic require that both your location and your card’s country are supported. Setting up an account in a country you don’t live in to save a few dollars goes against the vendors’ terms and risks the account.
It’s the same with us. When you buy ChatGPT, Gemini or another plan here, you pick the country your account is registered in, and we prepare the plan for that country. Picking a cheaper one doesn’t work, because the plan won’t activate on an account set to a different country.
How we price plans from other countries
Every product page shows the vendor’s local price for the country you pick, with a link to check it on the vendor’s site. We convert it to US dollars at the European Central Bank reference rate, refreshed every few hours, then take off the discount for longer terms (10% for 2 months, 15% for 3, 20% for 6 and 30% for 12) and add our service fee. You see each line before you pay, and you pay the total in USDT, Bitcoin, Monero or another coin.

Google · GeminiQuestions people ask
Why is ChatGPT more expensive in the UK?
Mostly because the UK price includes 20% VAT and the US price doesn’t include sales tax. Without VAT, ChatGPT Plus costs about $21.99 in the UK against $20 in the US. The pound’s exchange rate does the rest.
Do EU prices include VAT?
Yes. Consumer prices in the EU must include VAT, charged at the rate of the subscriber’s own country. The listed €22.99 for ChatGPT Plus already includes it.
Which country has the cheapest ChatGPT Plus?
Of the five regions we sell for, Canada: C$24.99, about $17.55 before tax. Add Ontario’s 13% HST and it’s still about $19.83.
Will these prices change?
Yes. Vendors change local prices from time to time, and exchange rates move every day. Our product pages always show the current price for each country.
